1. Rajco Standard Penetrometer : IS : 1203
   Used to determine grade of bitumen. The penetration tests determine consistency of bitumen for the purpose of grading Depth in units 1/10 of millimeter to which a standard needle having a standard weight will penetrate vertically in a duration of five seconds at a temperature of 25 ºC determines penetration for gradation.
   
   Consists of a vertical pillar mounted on a base provided with leveling screw The head together with dial gauge rod and cone (or needle) slides on a pillar and can be clamped at required height. A rack and pinion and pointer assembly provides adjustment of needle or cone tip to sample. It incorporates a slipping clutch mechanism which make reading of penetration and subsequesnt restting a simple and accurate operation The dial is graduated in 400 1/10th mm sub-divisions, and the red needle pointer against black figures makes for easy reading.
   
   Supplied complete with one 50 gram weight, and one 100 gram weight and one needle.
   
   Accessories :
   Penetrometer Cone : made of Gunmetal and is fitted with a hardened and ground detachable steel, tip and a stem, Total moving weight is 150 0.1 gram.
   
   
2. Rajco Automatic Standard Penetrometer :
   Same as above RSEP-180, but supplied with transistorized timer and electro-magnet incorporated in the cluth mechanism to accurately control penetration time to exact five seconds.

Ductility is defined as distance in cms to which a standard briquette of bitumen can be stretched before the thread breaks. The briquette is stretched at a rate of 50 mm /min. /2.5 mm per minute at a temperature of 27ºC /0.5ºC.

The apparatus consists of water bath with a thermostatic heater and a circulating pump to maintain uniform water temperature One half of the briquette moulds is fixed on a fixed plate in the water bath, the other half of the briquette mould is fixed to a carrier which slides over a rotating the threaded shaft with a clutch. The motor and gears to rotate the shaft are housed in a cabinet fixed above the other end of the bath. A pointer fixed to the carrier moves over a scale graduated from 0-110 cm x 1 mm fixed on the bath with 0 (Zero) of the scale towards the fixed plates side. The rotating shaft has 2 speeds of travel for the bracket, 5 cm/min and 1 cm/min. selected by a clutch.

Water bath inside is aluminium/ S. steel, its is an insulated water bath Water bath is provided with a drain. A heater with thermostatic control is fixed inside the water bath. Control switches for motor pump heater and indicator lamps are fixed at a convenient place on the water bath. Complete with three briquette moulds and one base plate, steel all made of brass operates on 230V A.C. supply single phase.

The Film Stripping device is used to measure the resistance of bituminous mixer to stripping of the asphalt from rock particles and is generally used to evaluate the mineral aggregate It may be used to judge the adhesive capacity of bituminous material. Stone screening for use with seal coats open graded mixes are usually subjected to this test. The test is applied to the aggregate fraction passing the 9.525 mm sieve and retained on No. 8 sieve. mixes are usually subjected to this test. The Film Stripping device consists of a disc of which four bottles are mounted. The disc rotated at the rate of approximately 100 r.p.m A time switch is provided. Suitable for operation on 230 volts, Single phase, A.C. Supply. The sample is kept in bottles and agitates for fifteen minutes The % age of aggregate stripped is then estimated by visual observation.

The light weight instrument is supplied in two parts for assembling on site with easy hand tools. In use end of the beam rests at a point under investigation while the beam the beam is pivoted at the centre. The free end carries a dial gauge to record the deflections. The other end kept on a stable platform. The beam ratio is 2:1 which magnifies even small deflections. Supplied with a dial gauge 0.01 x 25 mm. This is a light weight dismantleable instrument and easy to carry.

1. Rajco Centrifuge Extractor, Hand Operated
   This is used for a quantitative determination of bitumen in hot-mixed paving mixtures and pavement samples. The centrifuge extractor is a safe, portable, corrosion-resistant model, which can be used both in the field and the laboratory it consists of removable cast aluminium rotor bowl mounted on a vertical shaft. A filter paper disc is pressed in between the rotor bowl and cover plate by a knurled nut. The bowl assembly is enclosed in a housing mounted on a cast aluminium body The gears operate in oil bath with splash lubrication. Complete with 25 filter discs.

3. Centrifuge Extractor, Electrically
   The motor drive gives 3500 r.p.m. to the rotor bowl. Operation on 230 Volts Single Phase, 50 cycles. A.C. supply.

Originally developed by Bruce Marshall, a highway engineer in U.S.A later on standardised by ASTM. Generally the test is applicable to hot mix designs using bitumen and aggregates upto a maximum size of 25 mm.

In this method the resistance to plastic deformation of cylindrical specimen of bituminous mixture is measured when the same is loaded atperiphery at 5 cm per min. This test procedure is used in designing and evaluating bituminous paving mixes. The test procedure is extensively used in routine test programmes for paving jobs There are two major features of the Marshall method of designing mixes namely.

1. Density  voids analysis
2. Stability  flow tests.

The marshall stability of mix is defined as a maximum load carried by a compacted specimen at a standard test temperature of 60 deg.C. The flow value is deformation the marshall test specimen under goes during the loading upto the maximum load, in 0.25 mm units. In this test and attempt is made to determine optimum binder content for the type of aggregate mix and traffic intensity.

The apparatus consists of: 1. A loading unit motorized, capacity 5000 kgf with two telescopic pillars and an adjustable cross head Limit switches are fitted inside to control upward or downward movement of the pillars. On  off reversing switch and indicator lamps are on the front side while a hand wheel to manulally move the pillars minute operated on 230 Volts A.C.
